In perfect
register.

Orison Printers runs offset presses for brochures, books, packaging and stationery. When every ink lands exactly where it should, print looks sharp from the first copy to the last.

Register is the print term for every color plate landing in exactly the same spot. When it slips, edges blur and colors fringe.

What we print

Offset presses suit work that has to look the same from the first copy to the last. These are the jobs we run most.

  • Books and catalogues

Text pages and covers for novels, manuals, product catalogues and annual reports.

Binding: perfect bound, sewn or saddle stitched

  • Brochures and flyers

Folded leaflets, inserts, mailers and handouts, cut and folded to size.

Folds: half, tri-fold, gate fold, concertina

  • Packaging

Folding cartons, sleeves and boxes with spot colors and coatings, die-cut and glued.

    Finishes: spot UV, foil, embossing

  • Stationery

Letterheads, business cards, envelopes and notepads in your exact brand colors.

    Color: Pantone matching on request

  • Posters and labels

Bold solids and fine gradients on sheets and self-adhesive stock.

    Stocks: gloss, silk, uncoated, adhesive

  • Magazines and reports

Long runs where every page has to match the one before it.

Pages: from a few to several hundred

The more you print, the less each copy costs

Offset printing moves ink from a metal plate to a rubber blanket and then onto the paper. Making the plates is the up-front cost. After that, every extra copy is cheap, so a large run costs far less per piece than the same job printed digitally.

Color that stays put
Ink is set on the press and checked against your proof, so copy 10,000 matches copy 1.
Your exact brand color
Spot inks such as Pantone colors, plus metallic and fluorescent inks, are mixed to match instead of approximated with four colors.
More paper, more finishes
Coated, uncoated, recycled, textured and heavy board all run on offset presses.
Cost per copy against number of copies printed Offset printing starts far more expensive per copy than digital printing at low quantities, then drops below it and keeps falling as the run grows. Digital stays almost flat. Around here, offset starts to cost less Digital printing Offset printing Fewer copies More copies Cost per copy
Illustrative only, not a quote. Where the lines cross depends on size, page count and finishing.

From your file to finished copies

Every job follows the same five steps, and you approve the proof before any plate is made.

  1. 1

    Send your files

Upload PDFs or share your artwork. We check bleed, resolution and color mode before anything is made.

  2. 2

    Approve a proof

You get a digital proof, or a printed one for color-critical work. Nothing goes to plate until you sign it off.

  3. 3

    Plates are made

Each ink gets its own aluminum plate. Four-color jobs use four, and every spot color adds one more.

  4. 4

    Press run

Ink travels from plate to blanket to paper while we check sheets against the approved proof.

  5. 5

    Finish and deliver

Cutting, folding, laminating, binding and packing, then out the door on the date we agreed.

Getting your files ready

Files that follow these rules move to plate without delays. Not sure about yours? Send them anyway and we will check.

File type
PDF, ideally PDF/X-4.
Bleed
Extend backgrounds and images 3 mm past the trim on every edge.
Safe area
Keep text and logos at least 5 mm inside the trim.
Resolution
300 ppi at final size.
Color
CMYK. Name any spot colors, such as Pantone inks, so we mix them.
Black text
Set small text in 100% black only, not a mix of four inks.
Fonts
Embedded in the PDF or converted to outlines.
